New visitors always ask, "What is there to do in McGregor?" - Caught by surprise, the locals will look a bit confused and after a while say "Well nothing, that's why we love it!" - The truth is, the whole of the Breede River valley has many places to visit, but if it's relaxation, good living, food and wine you are after, McGregor is the perfect place to forget city cares, change gear, just live, enjoy and connect with friends.
McGregor does however offer a variety of activities for the visitor, from walking/hiking trails, the most spectacular being the Boesmanskloof trail from McGregor to Greyton, mountain biking, bird watching from two bird hides in Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve, to enjoyable meals and a chat at one of our coffee shops or restaurants. Or relax with an aromatherapy massage or Reiki session.
The village boasts a Saturday Morning Market where you may purchase a wide variety of home made jams, chutneys, freshly baked breads and muffins as well as many other products.
Don't miss out on our regional and village food and wine festivals.
We have just a few good quality shops, where you may browse through a variety of goods ranging from from antique furniture, old linens, silver, glassware & table settings with old bone-china to hand painted 'distressed' furniture. There is also a very well equipped Deli - certainly not to be missed. You may find our local distillery and wineries interesting. There is olive tasting at Rhebokskraal and many places to enjoy a good meal. You must visit our local wood fired pottery and go walking the dog after 5pm to enjoy the houses and gardens old and new.
McGregor's many gifted artists work in a variety of media: oils, watercolour, pastel, acrylic, pencil and charcoal amongst others. Some works of local artists hang in homes & galleries throughout the world.

Roy Reycraft Unique Timepieces And Handmade Craft
Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve was once the home of a dozen zebras with unusual stripe patterns. They'd been chosen in the hope of breeding quaggas. The project failed and the stables and staff buildings now serve new purposes. In one of them, at the end of a circuitous bumpy track you will find Roy Reycraft and Pam. Don't be deceived by the Pwd (Public Works Department) look of the place. Inside is a stage setting for Hansel and Gretel - doll's house miniatures and Pam's hand-crafted objects are all over the place.
